Even if you ask her to be serious for a photo, nothing can stop Avni's effervescent personality from shining through. She got dressed up in a gorgeous traditional red sari for this shoot and adorned herself with jewelry and henna. She truly looked like an Indian goddess.
Sophie is an incredible makeup artist - and model - who channeled her inner elf queen for this summertime shoot.
Check out her work over at Sophia Rhoads Cosmetics. I've heard it's good to stop and smell the roses. But when I took a walk this evening, the trash and cigarettes on the sidewalks seemed much more honest than the pots of manicured flowers.
The facts about our impact on the environment are overwhelming. The average person throws away approximately 4.4 pounds of trash daily, and it is estimated that 5.25 trillion pieces of trash are floating in Earth's oceans. Our habits need to change. Living a sustainable lifestyle takes work. Cutting back one's day-to-day waste will not happen overnight. However, being aware of our collective impact on the environment is a great first step. Carl Sagan once stated, "The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand." We have one planet - one home - to call our own. We don't get a do-over. Use fewer straws. Invest in a reusable water bottle. Bring your own reusable food containers to restaurants. We all share the Earth. Let's keep it clean and safe for everyone. In addition to being the home of the Indiana University Hoosiers, Bloomington, Indiana, is, as you can likely infer from its name, known for its many trees and flowers. It is, in my somewhat biased opinion, the prettiest town in the state. I instantly loved this photo, from my shoot with Destiny, but when I threw it into Photoshop for editing, I knew that some revamping would serve the image well. I loved the effect and the color of the bokeh flowers in the background and I wanted to try adapting the orientation of this photo from portrait to landscape to capitalize on these gorgeous flowers even more. So I expanded the canvas and got to work adding flowers to the background. It took quite a bit of time, patience, and use of Photoshop's stamp and patch tools, but I made it happen.
